AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL
CITY AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE BY
AMENDING REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO SIGN
STANDARDS.
The city council of the City of Cathedral City does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to state and local environmental guidelines, it has
been determined that the regulations encompassed in this ordinance are not
considered to have a significant impact and therefore a negative declaration is
approved.
SECTION 2. Subsection j hereby is added to Section 4 of Division C of
Article V, General Provisions, of the Cathedral City Zoning Ordinance
concerning Signs to read as follows:
(j) Auto Park Center Signs
(1) New automobile dealerships located within the Desert Auto
Park shall comply with the provisions of this Division with
respect to sign type, location, dimension and operation as
specified, except as contained herein.
(2) Main freestanding identification signs shall be limited to one
monument sign, not exceeding 50 sq. ft. in area and 7 feet
in height. Sign content and information shall be limited to
the dealership name and/or logo.
(3) Attached wall signs shall be limited to two signs per
dealership. The total area of both signs shall not exceed
100 sq. ft. The signs shall be attached to the building
fascia. The height of such signs shall not exceed two-thirds
the height of the fascia. The length shall not exceed
two-thirds of the length of the fascia.
(4) Auto park identification signs may be permitted at each
street intersection of the park. This sign shall meet the
specifications adopted by the Cathedral City Redevelopment
Agency. This sign shall be either a monument sign not
exceeding 6 feet in height or a wall sign attached to a
perimeter or security wall not greater than 6 feet in height.
(5) Directional signs shall be limited to either monument signs
not exceeding 3 sq. ft in area and 4 feet in height, or
attached wall sign not exceeding 6 sq. ft. in area.
Monument signs shall match the design of the main
freestanding sign. Only the following directional signage will
be allowed: "Customer Parking," "Employee Parking,"
"Enter," "Exit," and "Service Entrance."
(6) All signing for new automobile dealerships shall be designed
in a manner integrated with the project architecture through
the use of common elements pertaining to scale, style,
material, color, lettering, illumination, construction and
location.
(7) There shall be no revolving, flashing or moving signs
permitted. There shall be no billboards, vehicle or building
window signs or wall-painted signs permitted.
(8) No temporary pennants, bunting, tents or similar devices for
commercial display shall be permitted, except twice each
year for a period not to exceed fifteen (15) days, and such
display is approved by the Desert Autopark Dealers
Association and the City.
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect thirty (30) days after passage.
SECTION 4. POSTING. The City Clerk shall within 15 days after the
passage of this ordinance, cause it to be posted in at least the 3 public places
designated by resolution of the City Council; shall certify to the adoption and
posting of this ordinance; and shall cause this ordinance and its certification,
together with proof of posting, to be entered in the book of ordinances of this
City.
The foregoing ordinance was approved and adopted at a meeting of the
City Council held on February 18 , 1987 by the following vote:
