AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL
CITY AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE BY
MODIFYING REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO
GASOLINE SERVICE STATION SIGNS AND ADD-
TO IN
INSTRUCTIONAL SIGNS.
The city council of the City of Cathedral City does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to state and local environmental guidelines, it has
been determined that the regulations encompassed in this ordinance are not
considered to have a significant impact and therefore a negative declaration is
approved.
SECTION 2. Subsection h. of Section 4. of Division C. of Article V of
the Cathedral City Zoning Ordinance concerning sign regulations applicable to
gasoline service stations hereby is amended to read as follows:
h. Gasoline Price Signs
(1) Gasoline price signs pursuant to Section 13531 of
the Business and Professions Code of the State
of California are permitted. Such signs are
limited to one per street frontage, and in no
case shall an individual gasoline price sign exceed
twelve (12) square feet in area.
(2) Pursuant to the authority of Business and
Professions Code, Section 13531 (b), any area
designated in the General Plan of the City of
Cathedral City as a scenic corridor is exempt
from the requirements of Section 13531 of the
Business and Professions Code of the State of
California.
SECTION 3. Subsection f. of Section 2. of Division C. of Article V of the
Cathedral City Zoning Ordinance concerning exceptions to sign permit
procedures hereby is amended by adding a new sub-subsection, to be numbered
(6) and reading as follows:
(6) In addition to directional or safety signs as
mentioned in (2) above, the Director of
Community Development may authorize and
approve instructional signs not to exceed two (2)
square feet per face when deemed necessary for
the convenience of patrons of commercial and
industrial developments.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect thirty (30) days after passage.
SECTION 5. POSTING. The City Clerk shall within 15 days after the
passage of this ordinance, cause it to be posted in at least the 3 public places
designated by resolution of the City Council; shall certify to the adoption and

posting of this ordinance; and shall cause this ordinance and its certification,
together with proof of posting, to be entered in the book of ordinances of this
City.
The foregoing ordinance was approved and adopted at a meeting of the
City Council held on May 21 , 1986 by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmembers Di Grandi. Murphy and Mayor Pro Tern Paquette
