HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 95 ORDINANCE NO. 95 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY AMENDING SECTION 5 .56 . 030 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULES PROHIBITING COMMERCIAL FORTUNETELLING ACTIVITIES. The city council of the City of Cathedral City does ordain as follows: SECTION 1 . Section 5 . 56 . 030 of the Cathedral City Municipal Code relating to exceptions to the chapter generally prohibiting the practice of psychic activities for profit or compensation, hereby is amended to read as follows: 5. 56. 030 Exceptions. This chapter shall not apply to or prohibit: A. Any religious service, ceremony, practice or treat- ment; or B. The performance by any state-licensed person of the acts and practices usual to his calling or profession; or C. The commonly accepted practice of astrological readings or the formulation of astrological charts or any other element of commonly accepted astrological practices conducted either as amusement or pseudoscientific activities for any purpose or profit; or D. The performance of any of the acts or practices otherwise prohibited by this chapter when done for the enter- tainment and amusement of a group of twelve or more persons. SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE . This ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after passage. SECTION 3. POSTING. The City Clerk shall within 15 days after the passage of this ordinance, cause it to be posted in at least the 3 public places designated by resolution of the City Council; shall certify to the adoption and posting of this or- dinance; and shall cause this ordinance and its certification, together with proof of posting, to be entered in the book of or- dinances of this City . 000633 The foregoing ordinance was approved and adopted at a meeting of the City Council held on December 19 , 19814 by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmembers Krings, Martin, Murphy, Smith and Mayor Case Noes: Absent: II.
