AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY
AMENDING THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX
ORDINANCE TO CLARIFY THAT ORDINANCE'S
APPLICABILITY TO TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY OF
RECREATIONAL VEHICLE SPACES.
The city council of the City of Cathedral City does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Subsections A. and B. of Section 3.24.020 of the Cathedral City
Municipal Code, relating to definitions governing administration of the transient
occupancy tax, hereby are amended to read as follows:
A. "Hotel" means any facility or structure, or any portion of any facility
or structure, which is occupied or intended or designed for use or occupancy by
transients, including but not limited to dwelling, lodging or sleeping purposes,
and includes any hotel, inn, tourist home or house, motel, studio hotel,
bachelor hotel, lodginghouse, roominghouse, apartment house, time-share
project or facility, dormitory, public or private club, recreational vehicle park
or facility or space, mobile home or house trailer at a fixed location, or other
similar structure or portion thereof, duplex, triplex, single-family dwelling
units except any private dwelling house or other individually owned single-
family dwelling house unit rented only occasionally (infrequently) and
incidentally to the normal occupancy by the owner or his family; provided that
the burden of establishing that the housing or facility is not a hotel as defined
in this subsection shall be upon the owner or operator thereof who shall file
with the tax administrator such information as the tax administrator may
require, to establish and maintain such status.
B. "Occupancy" means the use or possession, or the right or entitlement
to the use or possession, of any hotel, room, rooms or any portion thereof, or
recreational vehicle space, offered for rent to be used or occupied for
dwelling, lodging or sleeping purposes regardless of the purpose for which the
rooms are rented or provided.
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance, being an ordinance relating to
taxes for usual and current expenses of the City, shall take effect immediately upon its
passage.
SECTION 3. POSTING. The City Clerk shall, within 15 days after passage of this
ordinance, cause it to be posted in at least the 3 public places designated by resolution of
the City Council; shall certify to the adoption and posting of this ordinance; and shall
cause this ordinance and its certification, together with proof of posting, to be entered in
the book of ordinances of this City.

The foregoing ordinance was approved and adopted at a meeting of the City Council
held this 2nd day of November , 1983 by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmembers Case, Martin, Smith and Mayor Krings
Noes: None
Absent: Councilmember Murphy

CITY, CALIFORNIA, IN A MEETING THEREOF HELD ON THE 2ND
DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1983, AND THAT THE SAME WAS POSTED WITHIN
15 DAYS AFTER PASSAGE IN AT LEAST THE THREE PUBLIC PLACES
SPECIFIED FOR SUCH POSTINGS, BY THE SAID CITY COUNCIL.
