AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY
AMENDING SECTION 2.55.010 OF THE CATHEDRAL
CITY MUNICIPAL CODE DESIGNATING HOLIDAYS
WHICH WILL BE OBSERVED BY THE CITY

The city council of the City of Cathedral City does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 2.55.010 of the Cathedral City Municipal Code hereby
is amended to read as follows:
2.55.010 Holidays observed by the City. (a) Excluding those offices
which must remain open for the continuation of essential public services
such as police and fire protection, the public offices of the city shall
be closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and on the following holidays:
(1) New Year's Day (January 1)
(2) Lincoln's Birthday (February 12)
(3) Third Monday in February (Washington's Birthday)
(4) Last Monday in May (Memorial Day)
(5) July 4 (Independence Day)
(6) First Monday in September (Labor Day)
(7) September 9 (Admission Day)
(8) November 11 (Veterans Day)
(9) Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday in November
(10) Friday following Thanksgiving Day
(11) December 25
(12) Any day declared to be a holiday by proclamation of the Mayor
(b) Holidays falling on Sunday will be observed on the following Monday.
Holidays falling on Saturday shall be observed on the preceding Friday.
(c) Other holidays may be designated by resolution or ordinance of the
city council.
(d) Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this section, the city
manager shall be authorized, by administrative regulation or otherwise, to
direct that all or a portion of the public offices of the city shall remain
open for business, on a full or reduced staff basis, on any of the days or
holidays prescribed above, when he determines it to be necessary in the
public interest so to do.
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect thirty (30) days after passage.
SECTION 3. POSTING. The City Clerk shall within 15 days after the passage
of this ordinance, cause it to be posted in at least the 3 public places designat-
ed by resolution of the city council; shall certify to the adoption and posting
of this ordinance; and shall cause this ordinance and its certification, together
with proof of posting, to be entered in the book of ordinances of this City.

The foregoing ordinance was approved at a meeting of the City Council
held on November 17 , 1982, by the following vote:
