CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY
CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA REPORT
SUBJECT: Approval of amendment to extend lease with County of Riverside for
Cathedral City use of old library building located at 68707 Highway 111 in
Cathedral City.
DEPARTMENT: MEETING DATE: October 8, 2003
CONTACT: DEADLINE FOR ACTION:
APPROVED: t)' 6 7 4
Department City Manager Finance
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve the first amendment to the lease
between the County of Riverside and the City of Cathedral City for use of the old library
building located at 68707 Highway 111 in Cathedral City.
SUMMARY:
BACKGROUND: Commencing July 1, 1998, the City of Cathedral City entered into a
five year lease with the County of Riverside for the use of the old library building for any
purpose the City would choose. The consideration required of the City was to pay $5.00
for the five year period and to assume the full cost of maintenance and operation.
This amendment will simply extend the lease for an additional twenty four months to June
30, 2005. All other provisions of the original lease not otherwise affected by this
amendment remain in full force and effect. This includes the provision in Section 20
regarding the City's exclusive right to purchase the premises from the County, at a price
methodology as specified in the lease.
This building has been in active use for recreational programs and continues to be an
important asset to the City's ability to provide such programs. Whether it will continue to
be needed is an open question at the present time, but in any event, the amendment
should be approved now so that the City can be able to continue to use the premises for
City purposes and to continue to have the exclusive right to purchase the property within
the amended lease term.
FISCAL IMPACT: This is a very favorable lease to the City of Cathedral City that will
cost $2 for the two year period. Our thanks should be extended to Riverside County for
providing this building and premises for City of Cathedral City use and benefit at essentially
no cost to the local community.
