A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING ITS CONTINUED
SUPPORT FOR A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF ALL WATER
IMPORT ALTERNATIVES AS PART OF THE LONG-TERM SOLUTION
FOR THE SALTON SEA
WHEREAS, the Ocean Water Importation Independent Review panel should
consider potential carbon emissions when conducting the "comprehensive analysis of
all water import alternatives," that was requested by our city in 2019 and 2020
resolutions. This analysis should include emissions from a drying lakebed and
proposed shallow water bodies as well as construction related emissions; and
WHEREAS, the Long-Range Planning Committee of the Salton Sea
Management Program should assess potential carbon emissions of all suggested long-
range solutions to address the man-made problems of the Salton Sea; and
WHEREAS, our support continues for consideration of water import alternatives
to refill the Salton Sea. This is the long-range plan that seems most likely to restore the
ecosystem, protect public health, support recreation and tourism, contribute to a
vigorous regional economy, and avoid ongoing releases of greenhouse gases to the
atmosphere
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL
CITY, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY declare its continued support for the completion
of a comprehensive analysis and review of all water import alternatives as a long-term
solution for the restoration of the Salton Sea, and requests the analysis of said
alternatives be incorporated into the SSMP.
