HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Reso 2022-30 RESOLUTION NO. 2022-30 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2022, FOR THE ELECTION OF CERTAIN OFFICERS AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE TO CONSOLIDATE THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD PURSUANT TO THE CALIFORNIA ELECTIONS CODE SECTION 10403. WHEREAS, under the provisions of the election's laws in the State of California, a Regular Municipal Election shall be held on November 8, 2022, for the Election of municipal officers; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the General Municipal election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that within the city, the precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the county election department of the County of Riverside canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election and that the election be held on all respects as if there were only one election; and NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Pursuant to the requirements of the California Elections Code, the Cathedral City Charter and Section 1.12 of the Cathedral City Municipal Code, there is called and ordered to be held in the City of Cathedral City, California, on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, a General Municipal Election for the purpose of electing Members of the City Council for four (4) year terms by Districts 3, 4, and 5 as set forth in the adopted Electoral District Map attached as Exhibit A and the election of one City Treasurer at- large for a four (4) year term. SECTION 2. That pursuant to the requirement of Section 10403 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a General Municipal Election with the Statewide General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, for the purpose of electing Members of the City Council for four (4) year terms by Districts 3, 4, and 5 and the election of one City Treasurer at-large for a four (4) year term. SECTION 3.. As required by Elections Code sections 10403 and 10418, the consolidated election shall be held and conducted, election boards appointed, voting precincts designated, candidates nominated, ballots printed, polls opened and closed, voter challenges determined, ballots counted and returned, returns canvassed, results declared, certificates of election issued, recounts conducted, election contests presented, and all other proceedings incidental to and connected with the election shall be regulated and done in accordance with the provisions of law regulating the statewide election. SECTION 4. The Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instruction to the County Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. SECTION 5. The City of Cathedral City recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any costs. SECTION 6. The City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to procure and furnish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to properly and lawfully conduct the election. SECTION 7. In all particulars not recited in this Resolution, the election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections. SECTION 8. Notice of the time and place of holding the election is given and the City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to give further or additional notice of the election, in time, form and manner as required by law. Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, the City Clerk is hereby instructed to act in conformance with the California Elections Code Section 10403 and to file this Resolution with the Board of Supervisors of Riverside County and to transmit a copy of the same to the Riverside County Elections Official. SECTION 9. The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the Book of Resolutions.
