1. AGENDA ITEMS
A. Options for Completion of the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater
Recommendation: This item is presented for information, discussion and
direction.
Tami Scott, Administrative Services Director, presented the following options for
the completion of the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater:
Option 1- Complete Project
Award the complete project, including a new Media Control Booth, two new
audio/speaker poles (sound towers) installed immediately in front of the Stage,
and two new lighting poles (lighting towers) and all-weather lighting system
appropriately spaced and installed in front of the first tier of the lawn seating
area; or
Option 2- Modified Project
Award a modified project, which includes the two new audio/speaker poles
(sound towers) installed immediately in front of the Stage, and two new lighting
poles (lighting towers) and all-weather lighting system appropriately spaced and
installed in front of the first tier of the lawn seating area but would excludes the
Media Control Booth rooftop and privacy walls. The Media Control Booth would
be an at-grade concrete pad, which is connected to the Stage AV Room.
Option 3- Modified Project - Truss System
Award a modified project, which excludes the two-separate audio/speaker poles
(sound towers) and excludes the two separate lighting poles (lighting towers) and
instead install a truss system suitable for the lighting and sound equipment. It
would also exclude the Media Control Booth rooftop and privacy walls. The
Media Control Booth would be an at-grade concrete pad, which is connected to
the Stage AV Room. Installation of the speakers on the truss system includes a
pulley mechanism to facilitate raising and lowering the speakers.
Option 4 - Make No Changes- Install Power Bollards Only.
Award no contract to Horizons Construction Company International and make no
changes to the Amphitheater's lighting, acoustical, and communications than
what is currently available. This option can include the at-grade concrete pad
connected to the Stage AV room.
Shelley Kaplan provided suggestions on lighting and lighting angels for option 3.
At the conclusion of the discussion, it was the consensus of the City Council to
bring back for consideration and formal action Option 3 as follows:
Award a modified project, which excludes the two-separate audio/speaker poles
(sound towers) and excludes the two separate lighting poles (lighting towers) and
instead install a truss system suitable for the lighting and sound equipment. It
would also exclude the Media Control Booth rooftop and privacy walls. The
Media Control Booth would be an at-grade concrete pad, which is connected to
the Stage AV Room. Installation of the speakers on the truss system includes a
pulley mechanism to facilitate raising and lowering the speakers.
