• CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Stan Henry called the December 12, 2016, Special City Council Meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
• PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Council Member Shelley Kaplan let the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council Member Mark Carnevale offered the Invocation.

The Mayor and City Council recognized all of the individuals that volunteered their time to work on the Healing
Fields event and the City's 35th Anniversary Celebration.
3. LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS
3.A. 2016-531 Declaration of Results for the November 8, 2016 Municipal Election
Recommendation: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a Resolution declaring the
results of the November 8, 2016 election as certified by the Riverside
County Registrar of Voters.
Mayor Stan Henry announced that Cathedral City had the largest turn-out of voters this election. He indicated that
with this election Greg Pettis and John Aguilar were re-elected to the City Council and he was re-elected as Mayor.
He also indicated that two measures were adopted.
A motion was made by Council Member Aguilar,seconded by Council Member Kaplan,to adopt a
Resolution declaring the results of the November 8,2016 election as certified by the Riverside County
Registrar of Voters.The motion carried by the following vote:

Aye: 5- Mayor Henry, Mayor Pro Tern Pettis, Council Member Kaplan, Council Member Carnevale, and
Council Member Aguilar

3.B. 2016-535 Swear-In Newly Elected Officials
Recommendation: There is no action for the Council to take. The Deputy City Clerk will
swear-in the Newly Elected Officials upon certification of the Election
Results.
Deputy City Clerk Tracey Martinez swore in Stan Henry as Mayor, Greg Pettis as Council Member and John
Aguilar as Council Member.
Mayor Stan Henry introduced the dignitaries that were in attendance. He introduced his family members that were
in attendance.
Council Member John Aguilar thanked the community,friends and neighbors for their generous support. He
thanked his biggest supporter Bruce and his long time friend Chris. The support he received from everyone is
greatly appreciated. He commended the City Staff for the great job they do. He thanked everyone for the
opportunitty and is looking forward to all that is to come.
Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis stated that this is the seventh time that he has taken that oath of office yet the first
time without his father. He feels that the City has truly become his family. He feels that Cathedral City is the
best City in the Valley and is happy to be a part of it.
Council Member Mark Carnevale stated that it is an honor to be seated with the Council and is looking forward to
the next few years.
Council Member Shelley Kaplan is looking forward to the next few years working with the Council and agrees that
City Staff is truly great.
Mayor Stan Henry, feels that Cathedral City has a fantastic City Council. The community has begun to get
engaged again and he believes it is due to the City Council. Many of the goals that were set have been
accomplished over the past few years. The Council sets the goals and the ones that make it happen are the
staff, they do a great job. It is a team effort tthat makes the City successful, the community,businesses owners
and staff make it happen. He encouraged everyone to stay engaged and get involved.
3.C. 2016-536 Selection of Mayor Pro Tern
Recommendation: Staff recommends that the City Council select a Council Member to serve
as Mayor Pro Tern for a two-year term.
A motion was made by Council Member Kaplan,seconded by Council Member Carnevale,to appoint
Greg Pettis as the Mayor Pro Tern to serve a two-year term.The motion carried by the following vote:
Aye: 5- Mayor Henry, Mayor Pro Tern Pettis, Council Member Kaplan, Council Member Carnevale, and
Council Member Aguilar

4. COUNCIL REPORTS
Mayor Stan Henry invited everyone to attend the reception that is being held in the paseo.
