HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 2015-10-21 Cathedral City CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS 68-700 AVENIDA LALO GUERRERO CATHEDRAL CITY, CA 92234 Wednesday, October 21, 2015 SPECIAL MEETING 5:00 PM SPECIAL JOINT MEETING CATHEDRAL CITY CITY COUNCIL AND PLANNING COMMISSION STUDY SESSION ROOM 68-700 AVENIDA LALO GUERRERO CATHEDRAL CITY, CA 92234 • CALL TO ORDER Mayor Stan Henry called the Special Joint Meeting of the Cathedral City City Council and Planning Commission of October 21, 2015 to order at 5:00 p.m. • PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Council Member John Aguilar led the Pledge of Allegiance. • INVOCATION (MOMENT OF REFLECTION) Council Member Mark Carnevale offered the Invocation. • ROLL CALL -City Council Present 4- Mayor Stan Henry, Council Member Shelley Kaplan, Council Member Mark Carnevale, and Council Member John Aguilar Absent 1 - Council Member Gregory S. Pettis Motion by Council Member Kaplan, seconded by Council Member Aguilar, to excuse the absence of Mayor Pro Tern Greg Pettis. Motion carried all Ayes. • ROLL CALL - Planning Commission Present 6-Chairman,John Rivera, Vice-Chairman,Anna Rodriguez, Commissioner John Holt, Commissioner William Baker, Commissioner Sergio Espericueta, Commissioner Bany Jaquess Absent 1-Commissioner Robin Johnson • STATEMENT OF PARTICIPATION BY DEPUTY CITY CLERK 1. PUBLIC COMMENT Alan Carvalho, Cathedral City, was called to speak. He thanked the Commissioners for volunteering their time. He expressed his concern with comments from the Commission at a prior meeting and the importance of moving forward with developing the City. She thanked everyone for doing a great job. She feels that a new way of thinking needs to take place in Cathedral City and that the City needs to have their own identity. 2. DOWNTOWN HOTEL PROJECT UPDATE An update was provided by Staff on the Downtown Hotel Project. 3. CITY COUNCIL VISION FOR THE PLANNING COMMISSION The City Council thanked the Planning Commission for their efforts and expressed their desire to move the City forward through economic development. 4. PLANNING COMMISSION COMMENTS FOR THE CITY COUNCIL The members of the Planning Commission also feel that economic development is important to the success of the City and intend to work together for the betterment of the City. They also indicated that holding a joint meeting was a good idea and they wish to continue this practice.
