DEPARTMENT: Community Development/Public Works MEETING DATE: October 24, 2012 CONTACT PERSON: Pat Milos DEADLINE FOR ACTION: N/A APPROVED: Department City Manager Finance RECOMMENDATION: THAT THE CITY COUNCIL ADOPT THE ATTACHED RESOLUTION AMENDING THE NO STOPPING, STANDING, OR PARKING ZONES ON PEREZ ROAD SOUTH OF EAST PALM CANYON DRIVE. BACKGROUND: When the Cathedral City Auto Park was originally developed all streets servicing the dealerships were red lined which prohibited on-street parking. In 2000, the extension of Perez Road, south of East Palm Canyon was completed. The extension project includes the construction of the cul-de-sac area which now includes the following businesses: Jessup, Pacific Collision Center, Cathedral City Collision, Palm Springs Volvo, SunAir Wheel Alignment and Valley Smog. On April 25, 2001, City Council adopted Resolution 2001-31 establishing all business frontages along Perez Road (south of East Palm Canyon Drive)as a no-parking zone. Recently, the business community along Perez Road (south of the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive) requested that the City establish a parking zone in front of their properties. The business community informed staff that their facility does not support enough parking spaces for employees and customers. They are requesting that their no parking zone in front of their properties be removed so they can use the area for employee and customer parking only. The parking zone would extend from the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive south along Perez Road (see attached map for reference) excluding line of site entry's and fire apparatus zones of consideration. On August 2, 2012, Cathedral City's Streets and Transportation Commission reviewed the request for a parking zone along Perez Road and unanimously recommended approval. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost to eliminate the red curb is minimal. The Public Works operations budget will cover the cost of the project and the work would be performed by city staff.
