HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Reso 2012-176 1 RESOLUTION NO.2 0/ — f 7 4o A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY CHANGING THE NAME OF A PORTION OF SUNAIR ROAD BETWEEN MELROSE DRIVE AND PALOS VERDE DRIVE TO "GAY RESORT DRIVE" (STREET NAME CHANGE NO. 12-001) WHEREAS, the names of private streets are regulated by the City of Cathedral City (the "City") pursuant to the City's Municipal Code ("CCMC") Chapter 14.07; and WHEREAS, Street Name Change No. 12-001 will hereafter be referred to as the "Project"for purposes of this Resolution; and WHEREAS, the CCMC provides that the purposes of street name regulation are to ensure there are no duplicates and that City standards are satisfied; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the CCMC, a street name change requires the following: 1) the submission of a name change application, 2) review by the Planning Division, 3) review by the Development Services Committee, 4) a noticed Public Hearing before City Council, 5) a determination by the City Council by Resolution to approve the name change, and 6) the full g ) payment of the street sign fee and costs required by the CCMC; and WHEREAS, CCMC Section 14.07.040 requires the City to view a name that relates to a stated development theme favorably when considering a proposed street name change; and WHEREAS, Richard Altman ("Applicant") owns the CCBC hotel, a gay resort located at 68369 Sunair Road, and owns the portion of Sunair Road between Melrose Drive and Palo Verde Drive; and WHEREAS, Applicant has applied for a street name change proposing to change the name of the privately owned portion of Sunair Road between Melrose Drive and Palo Verde Drive to "Gay Resort Drive"; and WHEREAS, Applicant has addressed the application requirements of the City's CCMC and is the only party with an address on Sunair Road, rendering additional property owner approval unnecessary pursuant to the CCMC; and WHEREAS, the Planning Division and Development Services Committee have completed their review of Applicant's application for consistency with the CCMC, and find that the proposed name does reflect the neighborhood for which the hotel is a large part, and recommends that the City Council approve the proposed name; and WHEREAS, the Project was noticed in accordance with the CCMC; and 1 WHEREAS, on May 23, 2012, the City Council held a Public Hearing on the Project; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the CCMC, the City Council is the designated body to approve street name changes. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. RECITALS That the foregoing recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein by this reference. Section 2. APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION That subject to the full payment of the street sign deposit and any other fees and costs required by the CCMC, the City Council hereby adopts this Resolution approving the name change of the portion of Sunair Road between Melrose Drive and Palos Verde Drive to Gay Resort Drive (Street Name Change No. 12-001). Section 3. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon its adoption. Section 4. NOTICE TO COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE That pursuant to Government Code Sections 34091.1 and 34092, and Municipal Code Section 14.07.070, a copy of this Resolution shall, upon adoption, be promptly forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside.
